DirFleet is a free, MIT-licensed file manager written in Rust with egui. It's a hobby project that isn't trying to replace Finder or Windows Explorer. The repository still uses its earlier name, lwa_fm.
What it does
- Browsing. Switch between list and grid views, with locations and drives in the sidebar and file details in an inspector panel.
- Previews. See thumbnails for images and videos. Video thumbnails use FFmpeg.
- Search. Filter the current folder and keep the searches you use often.
- Settings. Change everything in the app's Settings dialog, with no config file to edit by hand.
Plugins
Plugins are written in Lua 5.4 and run in a sandbox. Each one declares its permissions in a manifest, and you approve them. They can add file actions, forms, background jobs and inspector sections, and they reload when you save the file.
Two plugins are bundled: Git, which shows the branch and changes and can fetch, pull, push and commit, and a Video Converter built on FFmpeg.
Try it
DirFleet is under active development and still evolving, with no prebuilt releases yet. CI runs on Linux, macOS and Windows, and Windows also gets Fluent styling with your system accent color. Building it requires Rust 1.95 or newer:
